Funds to support World Indigenous Suicide Prevention Conference

The Seneca Nation is hosting a two-day event of fun and camaraderie to support an important cause. Funds from the World Indigenous Suicide Prevention Charitable Golf Tournament, on Aug. 7-8 at Seneca Hickory Stick Golf Course in Lewiston and Seneca Niagara Resort & Casino in Niagara Falls, will support the fourth World Indigenous Suicide Prevention Conference. The Seneca Nation will host the conference in July 2024, marking the first time it will be held in the U.S.

A press release stated, “In the United States, Indigenous communities see the highest rate of suicide compared to other populations, with the highest rate of occurrence among people between the ages of 15-24.”

Seneca Nation President Rickey Armstrong Sr. said, “Indigenous communities throughout the world face the harsh reality of high suicide rates, particularly among our young people. We want to bring together Native Nations from around the world for next year’s conference to address the issues our communities and families are facing, and to work toward creating effective solutions to help prevent further pain from the tragedy of unexpected and unexplained loss.”

A press release stated, “The two-day golf event will begin with a welcome reception on Monday, Aug. 7, at Seneca Niagara Resort & Casino, the Nation’s AAA Four Diamond Award-winning resort in Niagara Falls, located just minutes from one of the natural wonders of the world.

The following day, Tuesday, Aug. 8, golfers will enjoy a day of golf and fun at Seneca Hickory Stick Golf Course in nearby Lewiston, a beautiful par-72 design by the legendary Robert Trent Jones II.

“Located on approximately 250 acres of land, the course features a magnificent layout with significant water features, five sets of tees on every hole and pristine grounds, which golfers of every skill will enjoy and appreciate. Among its unique design features are strategically placed bunkers surrounded by tall heather and a double green for the 9th and 18th holes, a layout much more common in Europe than in North America.

“Seneca Hickory Stick Golf Course is regularly rated as one of the best courses in New York state.”

Following golf, participants will be invited back to Seneca Niagara Resort & Casino for a celebratory dinner reception.

A number of sponsorship opportunities are available for the World Indigenous Suicide Prevention Golf Tournament, many of which include overnight accommodations at Seneca Niagara and participation in the World Indigenous Suicide Prevention Conference next year.
