The “Hometown Heroes” banners are flying; enjoyable pre-summer weather is here, and with it the annual Ransomville Community Faire takes over the hamlet, starting at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 10.

Presented by Ransomville resident Ruth Ann Buzzard, this year’s event carries the theme of “Come Fly With Me.” Expected will be entertaining performances by the Aerial Arts of Rochester and Skydive the Falls, along with a “Come Fly With Me” flag float display created by airigami artist Larry Moss among the many highlights.

According to Buzzard, this decades-old community celebration traces its beginnings to 1969, where students of the former W.H. Stephenson Elementary School celebrated Flag Day with a parade of all U.S. state flags on the school grounds. The annual celebration ended in 2014 with the closing of Stephenson by the Wilson School District. It returned in 2016 as a community affair by Buzzard, with assistance by a number of local interests, and continues this year.

Next Saturday, residents are invited to visit Ransomville and check out a number of community activities. The Ransomville Flag Day Parade begins at the O. Leo Curtiss American Post 830 at 2589 Ransomville Road with the aforementioned aerial shows. It continues to the nearby Ransomville Free Library at 3733 Ransomville Road, marking the site’s 100th anniversary.

The parade includes a number of attractions along its short route. Look for displays by the New York State Police; local veterans organizations and the U.S. Coast Guard; colorful U.S. state flags; visits by Ismailia Shrine Legion Shrine of Honor officials; performances by the MacKenzie Highlanders Pipes and Drums; “Paw Patrol” characters; Boy Scout and Girl Scout Troops; Jimmy the Balloon Man; the Mercy Flight helicopter; Niagara County 4-H Auction Kids; Ransomville Speedway and Miss Ransomville; Baton Twirlers; the Ransomville Garden Club; the Renegades Lancaster Band; and the Niagara County Sheriff’s Office. Ransomville Road will be closed during the parade.

Attractions to check out throughout the hamlet include a plant sale by the Ransomville Garden Club; the Friends of the Ransomville Library book sale and basket auction; music from Step in Time; displays by the Niagara Power Vista and the Niagara County Sheriff’s K-9 Division; plus foods available through members of the Fillmore Chapel and the Ransomville Business Association.
