What does the future hold for the former Knights of Columbus hall?

The Dispatch recently reported on Pinto Construction Services President James J. Panepinto’s acquisition of the club building and nearly nine acres of land at 1841 Whitehaven Road. As Grand Island’s official newspaper – and the next-door neighbor to this site – input was sought on what come become of the property. Readers were asked to submit their best ideas.

Congratulations to these three award-winners, who came up with the most creative proposals:

•Adam P. won dinner for two at Zobud Bistro, 1879 Whitehaven Road, courtesy of James Panepinto. He suggested:

√ Zoo/petting zoo

√ Here’s why: Having 4 young children, it would be nice to have something like a zoo on the island. It would educate both old and young, especially if it were hands on.

•Jackie P. won four Buffalo Bisons tickets on the third baseline for any “fridaynightbash!” game this season, courtesy of Michael J. Billoni. She suggested:

√ Teen village

√ Here’s why: Best memories of live bands and dance. Add on karaoke, high school bands, novice G.I. singers, game nite, etc. Mrs. Chamberlain’s classes could help.

•Patricia E. won a $100 gift card to Colvin Cleaners, courtesy of Michael J. Billoni. She suggested:

√All-season indoor/outdoor sports facility

√ Here’s why: This town needs a big boost for the residents: young and seniors. Bring other town sports teams here for practices. Winters are too long without this!

Other interesting ideas included:

√ Town pool/splash pad or ice rink

√ Youth center/sports/music

√ Fitness center/gym/indoor walking track

√ Senior center/community center

√ Market/supermarket

√ Bakery/coffee house

√ Microbrewery/pub

√ Keep it a banquet hall/bar

√ Community theater

√ Drive-in/movie theater

√ Farmers market/flea market

√ Moose Lodge

√ Similar to Stiglmeier Park/trail through the woods

Last week, Panepinto told Billoni, “As a lifelong Grand Island resident, my partner and I will take into consideration the feedback from the town residents and town leadership on the best use of this building and surrounding property.”
