Suspicious person/weapons violation in Niagara Falls

On May 6, the Niagara County Sheriff’s Office communications center received a call reporting that a suspicious male was in possession of a gun. The male was reported to have stated that he was going to shoot someone. The male was originally reported to be in the area of Hyde Park Boulevard in the Town of Niagara.

Initially, patrols were unable to locate the male. A short time later, the male was reported to be near Niagara Avenue and Sixteenth Street in the City of Niagara Falls.

Patrols arrived and spoke with the individual, a 35-year-old Niagara Falls resident, briefly, before he attempted to flee. This person was subsequently taken into custody and found to have an illegal loaded handgun on him.

The male was then transported to Niagara Falls Memorial Hospital to assess for injuries. While at the hospital, he escaped custody, and was quickly taken back into custody.

The individual was charged with the following: criminal possession of a weapon, second degree; escape, second degree; criminal contempt, second degree; obstructing governmental administration, second degree; and two counts of resisting arrest. He was brought to the City of Niagara Falls Police Department to await arraignment there on all charges.
