On May 7, at approximately 4 am, Niagara Falls Police responded to the 4300 block of Porter Road to investigate a single-vehicle crash. A 2002 Chevy Tahoe was heading west on Porter Road when it crossed the eastbound lane, striking a utility pole. The vehicle continued, hitting a portable sign for the Niagara Falls Golf Course, before traveling down a small embankment. The vehicle came to rest in a shallow drainage ditch.
The Niagara Falls Police Department, Niagara Falls Fire Department and AMR Ambulance personnel attempted life-saving measures. The 39-year-old male driver of the vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity is being withheld, pending notification of the family.
The crash management team closed off a portion of Porter Road for approximately five hours to gather evidence, and to allow National Grid and Verizon to repair the damages.
The investigation is ongoing.
