District Rotary 7090, comprising Rotary Clubs in Western New York and Southern Ontario, recently held its annual meeting. During the event, participants discussed numerous service projects, including “Lasagna Love” and hygiene donations.
The “Lasagna Love” project involved providing lasagna, salad, dressing, bread and fruit to families of the Tuscarora Nation School. The lasagna was prepared by Rotarians from various clubs during the district conference. In total, 45 families received a meal as a result of this project.
Rotarians also donated hygiene products and money used to purchase items for the Family Support Center in the Niagara Wheatfield Central School District, and for the students in the Wilson Central School District. The much-needed supplies (toothpaste, laundry soap, deodorant, shampoo, soap, etc.) will be available for families in both districts.
The Niagara Wheatfield Family Support Center, with support from The Niagara Wheatfield Teachers Association, created a “caring closet” last year that has provided more than 1,500 hygiene products to district families since its inception.
“It’s a valuable resource for our families during these times of high inflation and employment insecurity,” Family Support Center Developer Kara Kirk said.
Wilson School social worker Morgan Taylor said her district has just started distributing hygiene products to students as needed, and plans to grow the program to serve all families in need.
