The spring show of the Niagara Arts Guild opened on Saturday with a surprise tie for Best of Show artwork: Maggie Eaton for her photograph, “The Yellow Cottage”; and Brady Zdrojewski, for his colored pencil painting “The Greeters: Hadrian’s Wall Path.”

Judged by watercolorist and en plein air artist Carol Mathewson of Waterlane Fine Art in Youngstown, the show continues through May 20 at the History Center of Niagara in Lockport.

Other winning artists include, for second place, Billie Pascoe for her acrylic image of the falls in “Below Terrapin Point,” lauded for its small format, brushwork and detail. Third place went to a watercolor by Rebecca Wilson titled “Looking Through the Reeds,” chosen for its smart handling of gradation and perspective.

Judged deserving of Merit Awards were Nona McQuay’s photo, “Winter Sun”; Peggy Taylor’s wall sculpture, “Just Having Fun”; and Judith Light’s mixed media work, “Pandemic Scramble.”
Viewer’s awarded the Viewer’s Choice Award in another tie between Rhonda Daigler for her oil painting, “Frosty Walk”; and Eaton for “The Yellow Cottage.”

The show can be seen Monday through Saturdays at the first-floor meeting room of the History Center, 215 Niagara St., Lockport.
