The international Peace Bridge connecting the U.S. and Canada is scheduled to be lit in purple on April 15 to highlight Month of the Military Child.

The U.S. Air Force Reserve Office of Public Affairs for 914th Air Refueling Wing said, “We are asking the Western New York community and our Canadian neighbors to consider dressing in purple (‘Purple Up’) any day during the month of April to show your support for our military children, and to tag us @914ARW on Facebook or Instagram with any of your social media posts. The color purple indicates that all military service branches are represented and combined for the mutual benefit of all.

“There’s an emphasis in United States military culture on total force to include families. They are the lifeline between military service and individual officers or enlisted members. With that in mind, former Defense Secretary Casper Weinberger established the Month of the Military Child as a Department of Defense-wide commemoration in 1986.”
