'Road Rally' to benefit Niagara County Historical Society

Mon, Apr 3rd 2023 07:00 am

The Niagara County Historical Society will hold its second annual “Road Rally” on June 3. The event is a fundraiser to benefit the Historical Society, and is sponsored by Crosby’s.

Organizers said the rally is not a race, but a contest testing a team’s driving skills, knowledge, powers of observation, memory, and the ability to do simple calculations. Participating vehicles will be given a departure time, route instructions, and a sealed envelope containing the rally end point (just in case they become hopelessly lost).

The leisurely drive will only be part of the fun. Teams will be tasked with decrypting clues, identifying landmarks, and recording information as they travel along the route. Upon arrival at the destination, each team will turn in their driving log with the recorded information for scoring.

Participants will be required to start the rally with at least two team members (driver and navigator), but the only limit to the size of a team will be the legal capacity of the vehicle. Each team must finish the trip with everyone who was in the vehicle at the start. Drivers will be responsible for obeying all traffic and civil laws.

The 2023 entry fee has been kept at $50 per vehicle to help drivers offset this year’s additional cost of fuel.

Advance registration, which is required, can be made by calling the History Center at 716-434-7433. The deadline for registration is April 26.
