Meals were prepared by chef Darian Bryan of Plating Society, served to residents by Bills coaches
On Wednesday, the Buffalo City Mission held a special community lunch in partnership with the Buffalo Bills and chef Darian Bryan of the Plating Society at the flagship Alfiero Center of Hope and Promise. The event included music entertainment and giveaways to the community and residents of the City Mission and Cornerstone Manor.
“Thank you to our friend, chef Darian Bryan, for preparing us a hearty meal; and to our partners at the Buffalo Bills for donating their time to help serve our community today,” said Aubrey Calhoun, executive director and CEO of the Buffalo City Mission. “In the midst of winter, providing our vulnerable neighbors with good company and a warm meal helps us change lives – today and every day.”
Prepared by Bryan, the meal included his signature coconut curry chicken served with a side of jasmine rice and fresh green beans. Two seatings were held: a community meal at 11:30 a.m. for individuals in need who don’t reside at the City Mission; and a resident meal for the men, women and children who call the Alfiero Family Center and Cornerstone Manor their home.
Eight Bills coaches were in attendance and served both meals. Bills merchandise was provided by the team. DJ Milk and DJ Yes also provided uplifting music to entertain the guests in attendance.
“Buffalo does so much for us, as the Buffalo Bills. As coaches and players, we come and go, but the Buffalo Bills are this community,” said Matt Smiley, Bills special teams coordinator. “And anytime we have a chance to get out of the office and help out in the community, that’s an opportunity we want to take.”
A press release stated, “The Buffalo City Mission provides individuals across Western New York a second chance by addressing the root causes of homelessness and poverty. Through education, skill classes, counseling and spiritual guidance, men, women and children are given a new way forward.”
