On Tuesday at 4:27 p.m., two Niagara Fall Police Department traffic division units, along with B-shift patrol, responded to 2005 Hyde Park Blvd., for an accident involving a City of Niagara Falls plow truck. Upon arrival, officers located the truck on its side in the roadway. The truck’s cargo of salt was spilled out and the truck was leaking diesel fuel.
Niagara Falls Fire Department responded to handle the fuel spill. No other motor vehicles were involved, and no injuries were reported.
Investigation revealed the truck was traveling west on Porter Road approaching Hyde Park Boulevard. The truck attempted to turn north onto Hyde Park Boulevard and tipped over. Evidence gathered on scene indicated the truck was traveling at an excessive speed and made an improper turn.
A 52-year-old male driver went to Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center, where officers allegedly observed signs of impairment and suspected the man was intoxicated. He was asked to perform field sobriety tests, and he failed said tests and was subsequently placed under arrest. He submitted to blood and urine tests and was later transported to the City Jail for processing.
