In New York, HUD awarded $6,305,517 to federally recognized tribes in the state.

"HUD is committed to supporting our tribal communities by providing resources that will help persons living in those neighborhoods thrive,” HUD Secretary Marcia L. Fudge said. “We know that these grants will not only be used to create affordable housing, but they will also provide much-needed wrap-around services and solutions to complex issues.”

“HUD funding to tribal communities provides resources so that all households have a decent, safe place to live,” said Alicka Ampry-Samuel, HUD regional administrator for New York and New Jersey. “Permanent homes and services not only support residents, but they also improve their communities and the lives of families that need it most.”

A press release noted, “The IHBG program is a formula grant that provides a range of affordable housing activities on reservations and related areas. Eligible activities include housing development, operation and modernization of existing housing, housing services to eligible families and individuals, crime prevention and safety, and model activities that provide creative approaches to solving affordable housing challenges.”
