The Buffalo Yacht Club announced it will host the “Sail for Roswell” on July 7 and 8. The event will include a charity regatta and a gala dinner with all proceeds benefitting Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center to develop cancer cures and save lives.
The event will kick off with an exhibition sail in front of the Buffalo Yacht Club, featuring area high school sailing teams on Friday. Alumni are encouraged to come and support their schools as they compete.
The charity regatta will take place on Saturday, followed by an evening gala dinner to include both silent and live auctions and evening entertainment.
The Buffalo Yacht Club, founded in 1860 and the third-oldest yacht club in continuous operation in the U.S., boasts more than 600 members. Tom Lewin, who has been a member since 1997, recently underwent treatment at Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center. He said he was inspired to revitalize the charity regatta concept, which last took place in 2015 benefiting the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
“I’ve lived the miracles that Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center makes possible. I’m thrilled to be able to give back to the organization by leveraging my personal passion: sailing,” Lewin said.
The Buffalo Yacht Club is located at 1 Porter Ave. Registration and ticket information will be available soon.
