Changes to public skate hours this weekend
The Ice at Canalside presented by Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield will be closed Friday, Feb. 3, due to the frigid temperatures expected throughout our region. All curling, igloo and group reservations scheduled will be notified and refunded.
“While a difficult decision to close with a highly anticipated silent disco at the ice, we feel this is the best way to ensure the safety of our customers and staff,” said Lauren Moloney-Ford, general manager of Buffalo Waterfront.
This weekend will also see the return of the Backyard Classic hockey tournament to the Ice at Canalside. Teams will face-off in games beginning at 8 a.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. Sunday, with money raised benefitting the John R. Oishei Children’s Hospital.
With the Backyard Classic occupying the ice Saturday and Sunday, public skate hours have changed for this weekend.
√ Saturday, Feb. 4: public skate hours from 5:30-10 p.m.
√ Sunday, Feb. 5: public skate hours from 4-8 p.m.
To visit the ice, take the NFTA Metro Rail to the Erie Canal Harbor Station stop, or there is ample parking in Canalside-area parking ramps and surface lots. Access to the rink is available from Main Street, Commercial Street and Marine Drive.
