On Friday, Jan. 20, at approximately 8:03 p.m., EMS crews from Wrights Corners Fire Co. and Mercy Ambulance responded to the Niagara County Correctional Facility for an unresponsive incarcerated individual following an apparent medical emergency and possible overdose.
Life-saving measures were immediately taken by corrections personnel and the jail medical staff at the facility, and the individual was taken to Eastern Niagara Hospital-Lockport for further treatment. The individual was subsequently transferred to South Buffalo Mercy Hospital, where he passed away on Sunday, Jan. 22, at 8:06 p.m.
The investigation is continuing in conjunction with the New York State Attorney General's Office of Special Investigation, as required. The New York State Commission of Correction was also notified.
The name of the incarcerated individual is not being released at this time. No further information will be released at this time.
