On Friday, Dec. 23, at approximately 7:33 p.m., EMS crews from Cambria Fire Co. and Mercy Ambulance responded to the Niagara County Correctional Facility for an unresponsive incarcerated individual following an apparent suicide attempt.
Life-saving measures were immediately taken by corrections personnel and the jail medical staff at the facility. The incarcerated individual was transported to Eastern Niagara Hospital and later transferred to Erie County Medical Center for treatment.
The incarcerated individual succumbed to injuries on Friday, Dec. 30.
An investigation is continuing in conjunction with the New York State Attorney General's Office of Special Investigation, as required. The New York State Commission of Correction was also notified.
