Thousands of Buffalonians are given the gift of ice skating through a significant donation from the Rich Family Foundation. Every student, faculty and staff member within the Buffalo Public Schools will be able to skate on the Ice at Canalside, presented by Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield of Western New York, as over 46,000 skate admission and rental tickets (a $500,000 value) will be distributed to buildings and classrooms within the district.

“The Buffalo Waterfront has always enjoyed a great partnership with the City of Buffalo, and we are thrilled to be able to make this opportunity available to the Buffalo Public Schools,” said Joe Segarra, president of Rich Entertainment Group, and treasurer of the Rich Family Foundation. “Strengthening equity and access in Buffalo is among Rich Family Foundation’s core values, and we hope this initiative provides fun, family entertainment and activities to more of the people that make this city great.”

Mike Ball, vice president of community affairs for Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield of Western New York, said, “As the official health plan of Canalside, we’re committed to making sure that this special health and wellness destination is accessible for our entire community. That’s why Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield of Western New York is pleased to partner with the Rich’s Family Foundation to provide opportunities for Buffalo Public School students to enjoy all that the Ice at Canalside has to offer this season.”

Kevin Parkinson, VP of finance and operations for Be Our Guest, a division of Rich Entertainment Group, said, “The Ice at Canalside is a destination that every family should have the opportunity to experience. This is a great way for families to build memories and enjoy the winter season together.”

A press release said, “The Ice at Canalside opened with a big celebration last month and will continue to welcome guests through the end of February. To visit the ice, take the NFTA Metro Rail to the Erie Canal Harbor Station stop – or there is ample parking in Canalside area parking ramps and surface lots. Access to the rink is available from Main Street, Commercial Street and Marine Drive.”
