Veronica Connor Middle School and Grand Island High School collected enough nonperishable food to fill 66 bags, said Dave Conboy, president of the Grand Island Neighbors Foundation.
Students and staff from both schools came together to sort and organize the food, as well as fill the bags on Dec. 8 at the Knights of Columbus, 1841 Whitehaven Road.
The bags of food were distributed to 66 Island families after the students and staff returned to school.
“We would like to thank the entire Grand Island community for their generosity and for helping us make the holidays brighter for our fellow Islanders,” Conboy said. “We would especially like to thank Dr. (Brian) Graham, and all the administrators, teachers, students and parents from the Grand Island schools, who donated nonperishable food and their time to ensure the success of our 50th annual event.”
For people who are looking to donate, the Neighbors Foundation is continuing to conduct its “Share Your Happiness” campaign, Conboy said. “Those interested in donating can visit our website at GINeighbors.org.
“For confidential food assistance, please contact us at 716-775-7998.”
