Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield of Western New York and the Buffalo Bills announced Ronald McDonald House Charities of Western New York (RMHC of WNY) as the “Highmark Community Hero” for Sunday’s game versus the New York Jets.
Highmark’s Community Hero program shines a spotlight on influential nonprofit organizations in the Buffalo community at each 2022 regular season home game. Organizations also receive a $2,500 donation and two tickets to the game.
The mission of RMHC of WNY is to create and support programs that directly improve the health and well-being of children and their families. For over 38 years, the Buffalo Ronald McDonald House has served more than 21,000 families from Western New York, surrounding states and outside the U.S.
Since opening in late 2017, the Ronald McDonald Family Room located in John R. Oishei Children’s Hospital serves over 1,000 visits each month, and the Happy Wheels Cart makes more than 500 bedside visits each week.
The organization is operated by a local volunteer board of directors and is 100% funded by donations from the local community. It has launched an “Access for All” campaign, with the goal of raising $644,000 to make the Buffalo Ronald McDonald House fully accessible.
