Assemblyman Angelo Morinello, who represents Grand Island in the 145th District of the New York State Assembly, presented certificates to three Veronica Connor Middle School students on Oct. 6 for their completion of the 2022 Summer Reading Challenge.
The New York State Assembly, in coordination with New York state libraries, conducted the 2022 Summer Reading Challenge to inspire children to read over the summer break, which can help fight the loss of learning known as the "summer slide." To earn a certificate, a participating child had to read in July and August for 40 days or more. This year’s theme was “Oceans of Possibilities,” celebrating water and ocean-related topics.
Three sixth-grade students met the challenge in July and August and earned certificates for the summer reading program. Pictured, in front, from left, are VCMS students Dylan Shvimer, Hadley Dahlgren and Nicholas Martineck. In the back are Jessica Shvimer and Morinello.
