2022 Philanthropy Award winners announced

Celebrating 35 years of generosity

The Western New York Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP WNY) announced its 2022 Philanthropy Award winners. The following awardees will be honored at AFP WNY’s annual National Philanthropy Day luncheon, presented by Russell J. Salvatore, on Wednesday, Nov. 16, at Salvatore’s Italian Gardens.

√ Outstanding Philanthropist: Salvatore Alfiero, posthumous

√ Outstanding Volunteer Fundraiser: GIVE 716

√ Outstanding Philanthropic Foundation: WNY COVID-19 Community Response Fund

√ Outstanding Philanthropic Corporation: Tops Friendly Markets

√ Outstanding Small Business (25 employees or less): Buffalo Balloon Co.

√ Outstanding Philanthropic Media: Hope Rises

√ Outstanding Youth Philanthropist: Grace Koncikowski

√ Earle Hannel Outstanding Fundraising Professional: David Kersten

The winners of these awards were selected by the 2022 Award Selection Committee, which consisted of past awardees, as well as members of the National Philanthropy Day Planning Committee. AFP WNY members submitted nominations providing evidence of their nominees’ financial support, philanthropic leadership, organizational abilities in fundraising campaigns, achievements resulting from volunteer efforts, overall community involvement, and success in recruiting and motivating others. This year’s group of winners was selected based on the association’s stringent selection criteria and historical standards of achievement.

Maryalice Demler and Scott Levin of WGRZ-TV Channel 2 will present the awards at the luncheon in front of an audience of nearly 500 guests, including community leaders and representatives from Western New York not-for-profits and businesses. This year marks the 35th anniversary of the Western New York Chapter’s celebration of National Philanthropy Day.
