An exhibit of vintage furs is in store for visitors to Grand Island Historical Society’s Sept. 18 open house at River Lea in Beaver Island State Park. Hours for the open house are 1-4 p.m. Costumed docents will be available to give visitors a tour of the historic farmhouse.

Other upcoming events include a monthly meeting at 7 p.m. Oct. 6, and a fall tea from noon until 2 p.m. Oct. 8. The monthly meeting will feature singer-songwriter Don Dwyer, who will share music and stories of the Civil War. The autumn tea, a new event, will feature a program called “the history of handkerchiefs.” Anyone interested in attending is asked to call Denise at 716-773-6699 to make a reservation. The cost to attend is $25. The deadline for reservations is Oct. 1. Both events will be held at River Lea.

The second of two open houses at River Lea will feature a display of uniforms, medals and other memorabilia honoring U.S. military. It is scheduled for 1-4 p.m. Oct. 16.

Nonmembers of the Historical Society will be asked for a $5 donation at monthly meetings. For anyone wishing to join, memberships will be available at all events.
