The Greater Niagara Ballet Company’s “The Nutcracker” is returning Dec. 9-10 to the Niagara Falls High School Performing Arts Center. The family-friendly holiday show features local dancers, guest artists and character performers.
Auditions will take place Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 17-18, at The Greater Niagara Ballet Company, located within the Niagara Arts and Cultural Center, 1201 Pine Ave. Enter through the purple door on the Portage Road side.
Participants should arrive in proper dance attire 30 minutes before audition time. The schedule includes tryouts for the following:
Character Dancers
•Noon to 12:45 p.m. Saturday, or 10-10:45 a.m. Sunday: children ages 5-10 with no dance experience necessary. Available roles include party scene, battle scene, angels and bon bons.
•1-1:30 p.m. Saturday, or 11-11:30 a.m. Sunday: children ages 10-12. Dancers needed; some dance experience is necessary. No pointe training required. Available parts include party scene, battle scene and Arabian handmaidens.
Corps de Ballet and Soloists
•1:45-2:15 p.m. Saturday, or 11:45 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. Sunday: children ages 12 and up. Pointe training is necessary, along with at least one year of ballet study. Available scenes include corps de ballet and soloists.
Clara and Fritz
•Children interested in portraying Clara and Fritz must audition for at least one of the other parts.
