With the unofficial start to summer coming up this weekend, NOCO is sharing a few tips to help you prepare for rising temperatures while keeping your energy costs in check over the next few months.

“Our recent taste of summer-like weather only reinforces that the dog days of summer will be here before we know it,” said Jeff Kelly, HVAC sales manager, NOCO. “With increasing energy costs impacting all of us, now is the time to take some steps throughout your home to ensure a cool, comfortable, and cost-effective summer for you and your family.”

NOCO’s tips include:

√ AC tune-up. Use a hose to clean off the outdoor air conditioner unit to get rid of any leaves, dirt and other debris that may be stuck inside to help it run more efficiently. Schedule an annual tune-up to ensure the unit is running efficiently to keep your house cool.

√ Replace furnace filter. If you have central air conditioning, make sure you have a clean furnace filter. It should be cleaned or replaced quarterly, or as recommended by the manufacturer.

√ Keep temperature constant. Set your thermostat to the highest temperature that is comfortable for you and your family. If you are not home during the day, use a programmable thermostat to set your air conditioning at least 4 degrees warmer.

√ Utilize ceiling fans at night. Set your thermostat a few degrees higher and run ceiling fans to better circulate the air while sleeping.

√ Close window blinds and curtains during the warmest part of the day. This will help to block out sun from shining in, keep your house cooler, and potentially have your air conditioner run less.

√ Don’t forget the bathroom fan. Run your bathroom exhaust fan during showers to remove the humid, warm air from your house.

NOCO provides thousands of homes across Western New York with the energy products and services they need from heating, ventilating and air conditioning to natural gas, electricity and community solar programs.

Scheduling an annual air conditioner tune up helps to ensure the unit is running efficiently to keep your house cool. Call NOCO at 716-614-6610 to make your appointment or visit noco.com for more information.
