The Buffalo Sabres on Friday announced the team signed defenseman Owen Power to a three-year, entry-level contract.
Power was named to the 2020-21 Big Ten All-Freshman Team and the 2021-22 All-Big Ten First Team. He became the first player from the University of Michigan to be selected with the No. 1 pick in the NHL Draft.
The 19-year-old defenseman represented Canada at the 2021 IIHF World Championship, the 2022 IIHF World Junior Championship and the 2022 Winter Olympic Games. He captured a gold medal at the World Championship and led all Canadian skaters with 21:38 of ice time per game at the Olympics.
Power was selected as the 2019-20 USHL Defenseman of the Year after he led all defensemen with 40 points (12 goals, 28 assists) in 45 games during his second season for the Chicago Steel.
