Ronald “Ron” Eydt 79, of Tellico Plains, Tennessee, passed away on Tuesday, March 29, 2022, while surrounded by his immediate family.
Ron is survived by the love of his life for over 60 years, Cammie Smith Eydt; his daughter, Jody Eydt; brothers Danny (Ellen) and Victor (late Marnie); five living nephews and one niece; and two special friends, Rick Saunders and Ernie Villalobos. He is preceded in death by his parents, Victor and Betty Eydt.
Numerous friends, colleagues, coworkers, students and athletes from his years of teaching and administration will also miss Ron’s dedication, positive influence and sense of humor.
Ron was born in Niagara Falls. He was a graduate of Indiana University and Lincoln Memorial University where he received his master’s degree. He wore many hats during his career in education. He taught science and physical education, was a coach of basketball and football in both Florida and Tennessee. Ron was also named Coach of the Year for the season of 1978-79 by the Fort Lauderdale News and Miami Herald newspapers.
Ron dedicated 43 years to teaching and coaching; 28 of those were served in Tennessee, 13 as principal in two Monroe County Schools. He also served as a Monroe County School Board member. Ron was dean of students and administration at TMI in Sweetwater, Tennessee.
Ron and his wife, Cammie, worked with special needs children and adults as owners and operators of the Tall Pine Camp in Coker Creek, Tennessee, for 23 years.
He was a positive influence and inspiration to countless children and adults throughout his life. If you had the pleasure of knowing him, then your life was enriched by his devotion and love for others.
A Celebration of Life service was held Tuesday, April 5, in the chapel of Myers Funeral Home in Tellico Plains, with Father Julius officiating. There was also time for family and friends to share their wonderful memories during the service.
