Niagara Falls: Police officer, teen hurt in crash

Per the Office of City of Niagara Falls Mayor Robert Restaino:

On March 17, at approximately 10:18 p.m., the Niagara Falls Police crash management unit responded to the intersection of 11th Street and North Avenue to investigate a two-car crash involving a marked police vehicle.

The police vehicle was operating in emergency mode in an attempt to stop a vehicle that was traveling east on North Avenue Extension. The officer followed the vehicle through the intersection and struck a 2010 Toyota Corolla that was northbound on 11th Street.

The driver of the Toyota, a 17-year-old Niagara Falls woman, suffered a head injury and was taken to Niagara Falls memorial Medical Center to be treated. She is currently in stable condition. Her two passengers, both 18-year-old women, were not injured.

The police officer is a 12-year veteran of the department. He was taken to Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center to be evaluated.

The crash management team is continuing the investigation.
