Though the name and the concept of midwives has been around for hundreds of years, their growing popularity in the U.S. is fairly recent. So, what exactly is a midwife and why are so many women in the 21st century relying on their care during pregnancy and beyond?
Catholic Health is hosting a special Facebook Live “Way to Wellness” event, “What to Expect: Understanding Modern Midwifery,” from 11 a.m. to noon Wednesday, March 16. The event will feature Trinity Medical OB/GYN and midwifery care certified nurse midwives Tiffany Nakajima and Sharon Nisengard from the Southtowns and East Aurora offices, and Heather Riester from the Delaware district office.
They will broadcast live from the 36th floor of Seneca One Tower, offering a candid conversation about what midwives are, the types of care they provide, how midwives work as a part of a care team, how they differ from an OB/GYN, and why this care model has seen a recent spike in interest. The speakers will also answer midwifery and women’s health questions.
