At approximately 6:54 p.m. Monday, the Niagara County Sheriff’s Office dispatch center received a 911 call reporting a possible apartment fire at 7200 Williams Road, apartment 209, in the Town of Wheatfield. Responding units were advised there was a fire in the unit and smoke emitting from under the door. Responding fire companies and NCSO deputies confirmed there had been a fire that was subsequently extinguished by the apartment sprinkler system. However, apartment 209 was still smoke-filled with an activated sprinkler.
There was no estimate on damages available. No injuries were reported. An investigation into the cause of the fire is being conducted by the Niagara County Origin and Cause Team.
Members of the following fire companies were on scene to ensure there was no further fire threat, and to evacuate all building residents to safety: Frontier Volunteer Fire Co., Bergholz Volunteer Fire Co., Adams Volunteer Fire Co. and St. Johnsburg Volunteer Fire Co. In addition, Tri Community Ambulance Service, Twin City Ambulance Service, and the Town of Niagara Police Department responded to assist.
