Grand Island hosted this year's DECA Region 12 competition on Sunday, Dec. 13. Twelve schools competed in business-related events with judges from local companies.

DECA adviser Cheryl Chamberlain said, “Grand Island offered some pretty impressive judging by Brandon Mumaw, Ryan McCarthy, Melina Aceti, Emily Kurtzhalts, Grace Kulikowski and Sarah Chamberlain. The high school and middle school presented 54 competitors, with 33 advancing to the State Career Conference in March. In addition, Grand Island High School has eight students going directly to states with business plans.

“Congratulations to all of our competitors and many thanks to our business department in the high school and middle school for their assistance: Amy Boutet, Christopher Simpson, Alana Burt, Leanne Winstanley and Mary Gentz.

“Region 12 DECA thanks the Grand Island School District for their hospitality. Grand Island's DECA and NAF students worked hard to prepare for this competition and came out on top!”
