Cami Clune's anticipated debut single, "old at 20," will be released Friday, Dec. 24.
The Buffalo native made national headlines with her success on NBC’s “The Voice.” What followed the show was certainly not a year of rest. From speaking engagements to performances of the national anthem at NHL and NFL events, fundraising, interviews, gigs and concerts, commercials, podcasts, social media influencing and more, Clune has been hard at work. Aside from all of that, she has mainly been focusing on recording and releasing her original music.
For "old at 20," Clune partnered with nationally known producer Grabbitz, who’s also from Buffalo. Her team said he crafted “Clune's angelic tones, mesmerizing alt-pop style and thought-provoking lyrics into a mature and polished musical realm.”
The Goo Goo Dolls’ Robby Takac introduced Clune to Grabbitz shortly after she returned from finishing in the semifinals on season 19 of “The Voice” in late December 2020.
Ideas for “old at 20” originated with Clune while she was in her hotel room in Los Angeles during production of “The Voice.” She was reflecting on how she and many other people her age in the entertainment industry – women, in particular – feel as though they are not accomplished if they haven't achieved great success by the time they are 20 years old.
Clune said, “It can feel like if you haven’t been on Broadway, starred in an A-list movie, hit the top charts, and won a Grammy by the age of 20, you’ve failed.”
That worry worsens, as one gets older, because it feels like the odds of success diminish each year.
As Clune continued to expand on this idea through her song, she discussed the feeling with others. Clune has seen many social media videos and comments of girls expressing a similar sentiment.
Clune’s team said, “While looking at the careers of young stars such as Billie Eilish, Olivia Rodrigo, Avril Lavigne, Britney Spears, etc., it can be difficult not to compare their successful journeys with one’s own. It seems to be a common theme for women to feel ‘washed up’ before they even hit the peak of their youth.
“When Cami returned from ‘The Voice,’ she began collaborating with artist and producer Grabbitz and they finished the song together. She hopes that, while young women listen to ‘old at 20,’ they can not only enjoy the energetic feel of the song, but also help them to feel less alone in their struggle to ‘make it.’ ”
“old at 20” will be available on all streaming platforms. The presave link is available here. It will turn into a redirect link to music platforms on Dec. 24.

Gwen Stefani said, “Wow, your voice is like an angel. It’s so beautiful. Your tone is so pure. My jaw is on the floor watching you.”
Kelly Clarkson added, “You have this beautiful way of telling a story. You sound like an angel.”
John Legend noted, “That performance was mesmerizing. Your voice has this wonderful warm tone. No one else is sounding like you on ‘The Voice’ so far this season, and I would love to help you navigate all the way to the finale."
Blake Shelton emphasized, "You are literally a star standing there.”
