Coinciding with the kickoff of the Christmas shopping season, officials of the Ransomville business community are throwing out the welcome mat to River Region residents to check out the hamlet this Sunday, Nov. 28.

On that day, the Ransomville Festival Parade will take place along Ransomville Road. Event organizer Ruth Ann Buzzard reports the afternoon event opens with cookie decorating and crafts from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Ransomville Free Library, 3733 Ransomville Road. The parade itself gets underway at 3 p.m., and continues up the street to the Hardison Funeral Home.

Expected to be led by the New York State Police, the parade will showcase Ransomville pride, with such organizations as O. Leo Curtiss American Legion Post 830, the Ransomville Volunteer Fire Co. Ransomville Garden Club, “Step in Time” singers, Ransomville Speedway, Rob and Jean of RK Motorsports, Farmers Feed America and Santa’s Sleigh Team all participating.

Activities to check out include a Marine Corps Toys for Tots collection drop-off at the Ransomville firehall; a picture walk featuring the “The Gingerman Story” along with the Ransomville Garden Club’s gingerbread house; and children’s events featuring the jingle bells and flags of Santa’s Sleigh Team and all his reindeer.

Buzzard said the little ones will be able to visit with Santa following the parade at 3:30 p.m. at the Ransomville firehall, where there will be picture-taking opportunities for the little ones with Santa. Also, look out for wreath judging, plus free cookies and hot chocolate and coffee.

The event is open to the public. Everyone is invited to stop by.
