Obituary: John W. Colburn

John W. Colburn, age 74, passed away on Nov. 1, 2021, at Rochester General Hospital in Rochester, after a brief illness. His youngest brother, Paul, was there at his passing.

John was born Aug. 27, 1947, the son of Wesley H. Colburn and Nina (Forney) Colburn, both deceased. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War and retired from the Naval Reserve. John lived in Rochester and worked as an engineer for a variety of companies. He was very active in the Healy VFW Post, serving as chaplain.

During his retirement, John worked as a lifeguard at several locations. He was very proud of teaching various “Water Babies” programs. He also delivered newspapers for the Democrat and Chronicle. He had many friends at the Parkside Diner and in the Rochester area.

John is survived by his sister, Marie (Colburn) Bathrick of Erie, Pennsylvania; and by his brothers, Lawrence Colburn (Carla Caputo) of Bensalem, Pennsylvania; Paul Colburn of Youngstown; and his niece, Sabrina Colburn of Bensalem, Pennsylvania.

He will be interred at Acacia Park in North Tonawanda. Arrangements entrusted to Hardison Funeral Homes Inc.
