As part of Monday’s Village of Lewiston Board of Trustees meeting, Cambria Troop 8’s Jack Olszewski presented a Boy Scouts of America proposal to install a new bicycle repair station outside of the Niagara River Region Chamber of Commerce/welcome center on Center Street.

The repair kit is made by Park Tools and consists of a weather-proof kit, eight tools and a cradle stand. It is designed to be maintenance-free, in the context of normal wear and tear.

This project is pegged at $800, which Olszewski, 17, will look to raise over the next few weeks. He said the plan is to install the station later this fall.

More and more bicyclists will travel to Lewiston in coming years, as the Niagara River Greenway has extended its Manhattan-to-Montreal bike path into Lewiston and (eventually) around Academy Park.

In addition to the welcome center – which rents bikes – the corner of Center and South Ninth streets also will have a renovated bathroom and comfort station.
