As announced by Mayor Robert Restaino in early August, over the past several weeks the Niagara Falls Police Department, in conjunction with the Niagara County Sheriff’s Office and New York State Police, conducted an aggressive driving campaign. It focused on the reports of increased reckless operation of vehicles within the city limits.

During this campaign, there were a total of 280 citations issued, which included but were not limited to:

√ 12 seatbelt violations

√ 30 aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle

√ 21 passed red light

√ 4 disobey traffic sign

√ 45 speed in zone

√ 2 reckless driving

√ 4 using cellphone while driving

√ 1 DWI

√ 106 miscellaneous

“I appreciate the effort by our Niagara Falls Police Department and our partners in the Niagara County Sheriff’s Office to work on making our city streets safer,” Restaino said. “With school starting next week, I would ask all motorists to slow down, respect all traffic control devices, and comply with all traffic safety laws.”
