Wegmans awards 500 employee scholarships in Western New York

The past year has challenged us all in so many ways, especially our employees who are getting their education, while serving an essential role during the pandemic.

At Wegmans, we recognize the high cost of higher education, and want to relieve some of that burden for our employees and their families. Since 1984, Wegmans has awarded over $130 million to more than 42,500 employees through the employee scholarship program for tuition assistance. Since that first year, scholarship recipients have been encouraged to study any field that piques their interest, at any accredited college, and are not required to continue their employment with Wegmans after graduation.

This year in the Buffalo Region, 500 new recipients will receive employee scholarships, totaling approximately $3 million in tuition assistance.

The program awards up to $1,500 per year for four years (a maximum of $6,000) to part-time employee recipients and awards up to $2,200 per year for four years (a maximum of $8,800) to recipients who are full-time employees, employees who are children of full-time employees, employees enrolled in an accredited culinary program, and Wegmans interns.

Our 2021 class of scholars work in our stores as cashiers, pharmacy technicians, helping hands employees, all while also taking classes and balancing busy lives. One thing they all have in common is a desire to learn and grow.
