Ruby Carey Memorial Scholarship

•UPDATE: The Youngstown Library and Friends of the Library are teaming with the Youngstown Study Club in honor of its 100th anniversary. Another $500 has been added to the Ruby Carey Scholarship, raising the total amount to $2,000.

The Youngstown Free Library and the Friends of the Library are offering the Ruby Carey Memorial Scholarship to high school seniors who reside in the 14174 area postal code. The scholarship is designed to assist deserving students purchase textbooks and other educational materials in pursuit of higher education. The award of $1,500 will be presented to the winner upon entering college, and their name will be inscribed on the plaque in the Youngstown Library.

To be eligible:

√ Applicants must reside in the 14174 postal code district during the year of application.

√  Applicants must have a library card in good standing from the NIOGA system.

√ Applicants must be accepted into and attend an accredited institution of higher learning in the year following graduation.

Criteria:

 √ Applicants will submit their most current academic record, list of extracurricular activities and of community service and their written response to the essay question(s).

The completed application and documents are due April 23. Applications are available at Lewiston-Porter High School guidance office and in the Youngstown Library.
