In addition to vaccinating nearly 8,000 of its associates and providers, Catholic Health has also vaccinated hundreds of members of the local law enforcement community against COVID-19, including members of the Buffalo Police Department.

“We work closely with first responders throughout Western New York, so when the Buffalo Police reached out to us, it was gratifying to be able to support them in this way,” said Mark Sullivan, Catholic Health president and CEO. “In addition to the Buffalo Police Department, we have also been able to vaccinate members of the Erie County Sherriff’s Department and Niagara Falls Police Department, as well as New York State Troopers and court officers, Erie County district attorney investigators, and NFTA police.”

This past weekend, Catholic Health vaccinated 180 members of the Buffalo Police Department at vaccine distribution PODs at Sisters of Charity Hospital Main Street and St. Joseph campuses.

“The Buffalo Police Department is extremely grateful for the willingness of Catholic Health to share this vital vaccine with our agency,” said Buffalo Police Chief of Staff Capt. Jeffrey Rinaldo. “This program will help ensure that our department is able to continue to serve the needs of our community and protect our personnel.”

In total, Catholic Health has administered more than 12,000 first doses of the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines among its associates, providers and community partners. More than 6,000 second doses have been administered at nine vaccination PODS in Erie and Niagara counties. The health system is now developing plans to continue its vaccination efforts among area health care personnel, medical providers, first responders and other frontline workers.

“We want thank everyone working at our vaccination PODs for their tireless efforts,” Sullivan said. “Based on vaccine availability, we will continue working with government, private and community providers until everyone in Western New York who wants to receive the COVID-19 vaccine has been vaccinated.”
