The United States Bankruptcy Court of the Western District of New York has set Saturday, Aug. 14, 2021, at 11:59 p.m. (Eastern Time) as the deadline (the “bar date”) for asserting claims against the Diocese of Buffalo, New York, in the diocese’s Chapter 11 proceeding, including any claims relating to sexual abuse.

A press release from the diocese stated, “The bar date fixed by the court marks an important milestone in the diocese’s reorganization process, and will allow the court and other parties in interest to ascertain the total number of claimants seeking recovery in the Chapter 11 case.

“Claimants who do not timely file a proof of claim may not be entitled to vote on, or to share in any distribution under, any Chapter 11 plan proposed and/or confirmed in the diocese’s Chapter 11 case. Accordingly, the diocese encourages all claimants to submit their proofs of claim as soon as possible, but in no event later than the bar date, to preserve their legal rights.

“Copies of the Bankruptcy Court’s order setting the bar date, the official proof of claim form and sexual abuse claim supplement, and other information regarding the diocese’s Chapter 11 case and the process for submitting a proof of claim may be obtained online by visiting https://case.stretto.com/dioceseofbuffalo, or by calling 855-292-7696.
