The North Tonawanda City Council on Monday selected Alderman-at-Large Robert Pecoraro to serve as council president at the annual reorganization meeting.

Former Council President Eric Zadzilka decided against seeking the position again and instead backed Pecoraro. Zadzilka will continue serving as Third Ward alderman.

“I am happy to step into this leadership position at a time when North Tonawanda continues to face strong challenges from the pandemic,” Pecoraro said. “Our city was headed down the right track until we were derailed like every other community by COVID-19. I want to take a strong role in getting us back on track and continue the renaissance that saw development taking place in all corners of our city.”

The council president position is elected by the five members of the City Council at the first meeting each year. Responsibilities include conducting meetings of the City Council and serving as the head of the city’s legislative branch.
