Plan distribution of senior farmers market nutrition program coupons

Information on senior-related nutrition programs, University Express, more will be available

The Erie County Department of Senior Services’ “Stay-Fit Dining” program will visit the Clinton-Bailey Farmer’s Market (1443 Clinton St., Buffalo) from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 19, to distribute Farmers Market coupons (a $20 value that may be used at area Farmer’s Markets through Nov. 30) and other departmental information to seniors. The department will have approximately 750 booklets to distribute on a first-come, first-served basis to eligible seniors and will also have senior-related nutrition education materials, information on senior programs such as “Club 99,” falls prevention, University Express, and current congregate/”Stay-Fit” dining menus and site locations.

Erie County Senior Services Commissioner David J. Shenk said, “This is a great incentive to improve nutrition among seniors through increased consumption of fruits and vegetables and, at the same time, support local farms and businesses. We will also have information available on all our other programs, so we are encouraging seniors to stop by and learn more.”

Seniors eligible for the coupon books must be 60 years of age or older with monthly household income limits at or below (as established by New York):

One person: $1,968 per month

Two person: $2,658 per month

Three person: $3,349 per month

Only one $20 coupon booklet will be issued per person per year. Seniors who have already received a booklet at a previous location are not eligible for another. Coupons can be used at participating farmers markets to purchase locally grown fruits and vegetables through Nov. 30. A list of locations will be provided. For more information about the farmers market coupons, call 716-858-7639.

Participants are asked to wear a mask and bring their own pen to sign eligibility form. Recipient must be present to sign or bring power of attorney documentation if signing for someone.
