Trocaire, Medaille & UB awarded federal funding for student support services

Congressman Brian Higgins announced a total of $911,186 in federal funding through the U.S. Department of Education for three Western New York colleges. Trocaire, Medaille and the University at Buffalo each received grants through the student support services program.

“This federal funding gives local students access to additional resources to help set them on a path to success in college and beyond,” Higgins said.

The three local institutions were among 42 public and private colleges in New York earning federal awards in fiscal year 2020. Trociare College will receive $261,888, WHILE Medaille College was granted $334,707 and the University at Buffalo has been awarded $314,591.

The goal of the student support services program is to increase college retention rates for first-generation, low-income students as well as students with disabilities, particularly those struggling financially. The funding supports academic tutoring, counseling, financial and career planning as well as other support services.
