Kayaks, paddles & lifejackets stolen in Lewiston

Fri, Jun 26th 2020 06:05 pm

The Morgan family reports two kayaks with paddles and lifejackets were stolen earlier this week from Niagara Outfitters along the docks on Water Street in Lewiston. Those with any information are asked to contact the Lewiston Police Department.

Libby Broderick debuted Niagara Outfitters in the village nearly two years ago. She offers hiking, biking, kayaking, canoeing, stand-up paddleboard, fishing, sailing and tubing. Participants can book a two-hour, four-hour, full day or multiday excursion. Each adventure is led by licensed guides. Equipment rentals and lessons also are available.

The kayaks are thought to have been taken on Tuesday.

Broderick posted the following message on Facebook:

“Surprised and angry! I often take for granted how safe and quiet Lewiston is! I feel like I used to know almost everyone down by the water, but these days with Covid, it is busier than ever!

“On Monday i had 2 people rent kayaks. They returned to the Lewiston boat launch around 2:30pm and left the kayaks in the grass next to the parking area. We had a communication breakdown, and the boats never got picked up. When i realized it, I went to get them last night they were gone!

“I've been on the phone all morning, to no avail. Below is a picture of the boats, they were 2 Old Town kayaks, paddles and life jackets. Please feel free to share this post. I know the weather was not great Tuesday and Wednesday, so not sure how many people were down there, but maybe someone saw something.”

Note: This is the picture the family submitted; these people had legitimately rented and were riding this kayak when the photo was taken.
