Lewiston Farmers Market makes 2020 debut

Tue, Jun 9th 2020 07:00 am

Jamie Symmonds opened her Lewiston Farmers Market on Saturday. Throngs of people came out – wearing masks and socially distancing, of course – to patronize local farmers and small businesses.

This year, the layout went perpendicular, as vendors both lined the Portage Road side of Academy Park and continued in past the bandshell and toward the Niagara River Region Chamber of Commerce office.

Popular market items included fresh produce, baked goods, honey and, new for year No. 3, breakfast sandwiches from the neighboring Syros Restaurant.

Particularly heartening to see was the Brickyard team, which debuted a new Brickyard Brewing Company beer and sold barbecue foodstuffs.

A late-May fire ravaged the BBC’s top floor and left smoke and water damage on the ground level and at the adjoining Brickyard Pub & BBQ.

Symmonds held a basket raffle to raise funds for the restaurant employees – and to thank Brickyard management, which has collaborated with her on this event since its inception.
