Says ‘Alarming unemployment trends’ triggers concerns foreclosure filings will soar
On Wednesday, Erie County Clerk Michael P. Kearns submitted to the budget director of the County of Erie a request for CARES Act funding for foreclosure prevention and relief services resulting from COVID-19. Taking notice of the recent unemployment trends, Kearns said he expects Erie County residents to fall behind on their monthly mortgage payments. As such, foreclosure filings will be on a rise in the Erie County Clerk’s Office.
Funding would be used to coordinate a program providing free legal counsel in foreclosure matters for Erie County residents suffering from COVID-19-related economic hardships.
