HART to participate in #GivingTuesdayNow

Fri, May 1st 2020 02:20 am

#GivingTuesday is a national charitable fundraising effort, traditionally held annually in November. Due to the unprecedented needs of not-for-profit organizations caused by COVID-19, a new global day of giving and unity will now be held May 5. The event is designed to drive an influx of giving, helping to mitigate the growing impact of revenue losses experienced by charities, due to the current viral pandemic.

HART (Home Assistance Referral Team) is an organization that has served the Greater Niagara community and adjacent areas since 1982. Its mission is to enable the elderly and infirm to maintain an independent lifestyle in their own homes by linking them with qualified and affordable assistance.

Services include health and personal care, skilled nursing care, respite for family caregivers, companionship, meal preparation, light housekeeping and yard work and errands.

All operating expenses incurred by HART are provided by charitable support and no time in its history has this support been more important as we continue to meet the needs of the most vulnerable among us.

A press release said, “HART has remained open during this current health crisis and our care coordinators continue to respond to inquiries and our nearly 300 caregivers haven’t missed a beat in providing dedicated assistance to those entrusted to their care.”

The global impact of COVID-19 has resulted in economic downturns including rising unemployment that is forecast to have a severe impact on not-for-profit organizations that rely on charitable donations to operate.

The press release added, “Your gift will help replace lost revenue that is critically needed so that we can continue to provide care for the elderly and infirm in our community. #GivingTuesdayNow will make $1,000 matching grants to the first 350 qualified nonprofits that raise at least $1,000 by 10 individual donors.”
