In response to the school closures in light of COVID-19, Explore & More is focused on helping the local community play and learn. While the museum is temporarily closed, the educational team launched a blog, “Sanity Savers,” to help caregivers who are now finding themselves educating their children from home. The blog covers art, culture, STEM, vocabulary, local history and sensory-friendly activities designed to be both fun, playful and educational.

Amelia Schrader, the senior manager of education for Explore & More, said, “While this situation is not ideal, we want to help our community during this difficult time. We have a staff of fully trained educators who normally would be on the floor conducting these activities themselves. So we thought, why not take this opportunity and help the caregivers out there. This is uncharted territory for everyone; we wanted to do our part to keep the play and learning going!”

Explore & More’s “Sanity Savers” will be releasing one to two new activities every day. The activities outline what materials one will need to do the activity, the educational level, step-by-step instructions with photos for review, and teaching points that can be made throughout the activity.
