The Buffalo Sabres Green Team today announced it will hold a sports equipment drive at KeyBank Center starting Monday, March 9, when the Sabres take on the Washington Capitals. The drive will run until Sunday, March 15, and all equipment donated will benefit Victory Sports.

The Sabres will collect new or gently used equipment from all sports in conjunction with NHL Green, an initiative designed to help reduce the league's environmental impact. A Green Team collection net will be located outside the KeyBank Center account services office throughout the duration of the drive.

The collection hours will be as follows:

  • Monday, March 9: 9 a.m. to end of game
  • Tuesday, March 10: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Wednesday, March 11: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Thursday, March 12: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Friday, March 13: 9 a.m. to end of game
  • Saturday, March 14: 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
  • Sunday, March 15: 9 a.m. to end of game

The Buffalo Sabres are dedicated to the sustainability of the environment in Western New York and Southern Ontario through the “Blue & Gold Make Green Initiative.” The organization is committed to creating programming to help fans reduce their environmental footprint and, at the same time, educate them on conservation issues, teaching fans how to be greener, and directing them to additional resources where they can learn more about environmental issues.

The Buffalo Sabres Green Team is presented by Modern Recycling, New Wave Energy and National Grid’s conservation incentive program.

Victory Sports Global Outreach is a local nonprofit with the mission of ”building stronger and healthier communities through sports.” It does this by helping under-resourced schools, teams and athletes obtain the sports equipment they need to play and compete. Their goal is to help stop kids from “retiring early“ from youth sports and keeping them active and healthy. Many kids are being ”priced out” of sports because of the high cost associated with playing. Victory Sports helps by reducing or eliminating the high cost of equipment needed to play.
