The Niagara County Department of Health’s nursing division, in partnership with the Niagara County Office for the Aging, is offering a pair of free diabetes self-management workshop. The series is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. Friday, Feb. 28, at the Dale Association-Lockport, 33 Ontario St.; and at 1 p.m. Monday, March 2, at the Trott Access Center, 1001 11th St., Niagara Falls.
This six-week program is for people who have a diagnosis of diabetes. The department said the workshop has demonstrated proven health benefits and complements the diabetic medical management services people receive from their providers.
A press release stated, “Participants will enhance skills to maintain active and fulfilling lifestyles, by improving problem-solving and decision-making, as well as addressing the challenges of living with diabetes. Workshop topics also include improving food choices, increasing physical activity, and practicing coping skills to maintain nutrition and a healthy weight.”
Individuals with diabetes or caregivers of persons with diabetes can register for the diabetes self-management workshop program by contacting Public Health Educator Stacy Knott of the Niagara County Department of Health nursing division at 716-278-1900. Organizations and groups are also encouraged to call the nursing division to schedule a free diabetes and/or chronic disease self-management workshop for their staff/clients.
