Approximately 4,500 town and county tax bills are now in the mail thanks to the volunteer work of members of the Golden Age Club at the town’s Golden Age Center.
Town Clerk Pattie Frentzel reports that for the 17th year, volunteers from the GAC have saved their neighbors money by doing the manual labor involved in stuffing all the bills into envelopes for later delivery to the post office.
This year, seven volunteers met Tuesday in Town Hall’s first-floor conference room and did the work in the morning. Frentzel has said in the past that without this volunteer help, the clerk’s office would have to outsource the job or pay overtime to Town Hall personnel to get the bills out.
